Jump Force and Yagami Light: a combination potent enough to set anime fans the world over into conniptions. Light and his Shinigami Ryuk appeared in the game's reveal trailer at E3 2018, leading many to hope, even expect the pair to be playable characters in-game. But will either be?

Jump Force Yagami Light: Will He Be Playable in Jump Force?

Most of the characters who appeared in Jump Force's reveal trailer have been confirmed as playable. That list includes all-star anime features such as Goku, Naruto, Luffy, Frieza, and more.

Unfortunately for "Death Note" fans, Yagami Light and Ryuk will not be playable in the upcoming fighting game. In interviews at and following E3, the game's producer Koji Nakajima ​has stated that Ryuk specifically would be too powerful as a playable character. Instead, he and Yagami Light will contribute to the game's story and help to explain why all the anime worlds of Shonen Jump are colliding.

Jump Force is ​slated for release Feb. 14 in Japan and Feb. 15 in the United States.
